Visa permit for 36 POK residents & 28 Indians ended Jammu Thirty-six PoK residents are over-staying in Jammu and Kashmir, while 28 Indian nationals are stuck in PoK, following suspension of peace bus service between India and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir after the arrest of a Pakistani driver, an official said today. The standoff between the two countries reached the 14th day after the driver from across the Line of Control was arrested on recovery of brown sugar valued at Rs 100 crore from his vehicle. The residents of POK and Indians who crossed LOC under people to people contact were the worst sufferers. Till date 36 POK and 28 Indian residents are over staying on either side as their Visa Permit has been ended. The dispute erupted following seizer of narcotic from POK truck and arrest of its driver, Pakistan closed gate from Uri trade centre and refused to take back 48 of the 49 drivers crossed over this side including a narcotic smuggler. The Indian authority refused to return arrested driver as a case has been registered against him under narcotic act and is under trail. The Pak authority is claiming for all 49 drivers. Similarly Pak authorities also made hostage Indian drivers who crossed over to POK with loaded trucks. According to sources there are total 84 people from POK crossed over this side to see their relatives but their visa permit has been completed and are overstaying here. Sources said that these people initially given 28 days visa permission and thereafter concerned Deputy Commissioner can extend 14 days more permission as a special case which was also completed in respect of these visitors. Uptill this day visa permit has been exhausted in respect of 36 POK residents. Similarly 53 people from Indian side crossed over to POK. Of which visa permit for 28 persons has been ended. Sources said that to discuss this burning issue, senior officers from both side has decided to hold meet in 2nd week of February on Poonch border.
