Visited two masjids today. The first one was in hurst- I went there to try my hafidh technique I was talking about yesterday. I sat, opened my Quran and read maybe 3 ayat then my Moroccan brother (late 30s) who was in another room in the masjid saw me and we both had Qurans in our hands. We wound up speaking about Islam for - hours until Asr. Then we departed after we prayed with everybody. Then I left there and went to another masjid in watuga- again too try this technique. But when I walked in I saw my good brother from Jordan(mid 40s) who was reading through suratal baqara. We both wound up talking, with Qurans in our hands- about Islam for 3 hours until maghrib. Then I broke the fast with two of my African American brothers, one a former marine in his 50s, the other builds jets in his late 30s. We ate, laughed and made fun of each other and even addressed a fiqh question. I found myself conversing a lot easier with both of my arab brothers because of all the Arabic I picked up, and I also found myself pondering on how Islam can bind a 23 year old, African american, former gang member/rapper with a native Moroccan and a native Jordanian, and two African America men- all of which are almost twice my age - to the point where I literally look at them like older blood brothers(they even call and fuss at me when I disappear for too long or dont call and let them know im alive). I wish I could attribute this to Ramadan, but these 4 particular men arnt Ramadan muslims, they are everyday muslims. They are always in the masjid, they always pray- when we speak, its always about Allah. Allah doesnt love the big deed done once, He loves the deeds which are constant. It is nothing more than our passion for Islam that allows our bond to cross between race, languages, age, and culture. It really is a gorgeous religion- but you have to practice it to know or understand this beauty. Practice your deen ya muslimeen, not one month out of the year, but one life out of eternity.
