Visiting with a neighbor tonight reminds me that so much more is - TopicsExpress

Visiting with a neighbor tonight reminds me that so much more is always going on than what we consciously realize and that the best gift we can give one another is unstinting respect for each beings sacred sovereignty. The day we met almost four years ago, our souls connected across a park on a beautiful summer morning. I exuberantly cried out, Isnt it a beautiful morning?! She called back across the tops of rose bushes, This is the day that the Lord hath made and I knew the appropriate response to her cue: We will rejoice and be glad in it! I did not know her name, yet our souls knew one another. Only later would I learn that she was 59 years old and homeless. Only later would I end up letting her use the back of my Suburban as a storage locker for her few possessions over the course of about a month. Only later would I let her sleep in the recliner in my tiny apartment one night because there was nowhere else to go. Only over time would we forge a bond that took us to extraordinary levels of intimacy as she eventually moved into my building and then became deathly ill. She credits me with saving her life at one point, which is technically true, I suppose, but I can tell you that when I did so, it was the most uncomplicated choice in the world. Life loves itself. How casually we visit now in the blessed land of the ordinary, never forgetting the extraordinary lengths to which we went to get here.
