Volleyball squads to hit ground running as season begins August 10, 2013 - By TERRY COOKSTON Herald-Banner Sports Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath volleyball teams hit the courts today to officially begin their 2013 seasons. Rockwall-Heath travels to Prestonwood Christian Academy to square off against Prestonwood and Prince of Peace in the first games of a fast-paced schedule. The Lady Hawks follow with games versus Lovejoy, Frisco Liberty and McKinney Boyd on Saturday at Lovejoy High School, then face Sachse and Plano at Sachse on Aug. 13, before heading to the Pearland Varsity Classic on Aug. 15. Rockwall starts its season today at 5 p.m. when the ladies take on traditional powerhouse Arlington Martin in Arlington and then face Plano West on Saturday in Plano before traveling to the Pearland Tournament on Aug. 15. Both squads will also get in additional tournament action, with RHS playing in the Allen Varsity Tournament beginning Aug. 23 and the Frisco Varsity Tournament starting Aug. 30 while Heath competes in the Allen Varsity Tournament on Aug. 23. Heath, which went 12-0 to capture the District 12-5A championship and advanced to the area playoff round in 2012, is looking for another banner year after losing only one player, Molly Nelson, from last year’s team. Rockwall, which finished second to Heath in 12-5A and also advanced to the area playoff round last season, will have to replace several key players, including Ashlynn Broussard, Lindsey Wheeler and Becca Floyd, but returns a strong nucleus of players from last year. Returning standouts include Jacqueline Ullmann, Bailey Smith, Kelsey Gaertner and Chaney Garcia.
