Volunteers needed for 2015 Point in Time (PIT) Count! The primary date is Thursday, January 22, 2015 Backup date is Thursday, January 29, 2015 Time: 7:00-10:00 pm, please arrive at 6:30 p.m. PIT Headquarters Location: Salvation Army (521 W Elmira Street) What is the Point-In-Time Count, and why is it important to our community? The annual Point-In-Time count is critical to San Antonio’s efforts to fight homelessness in our community. Federal funding for homeless programs is based largely on this once-a-year count of the city’s homeless population, so the more homeless who are counted, the more Federal dollars will come our way to help homeless individuals and families get out of their desperate situations and make their way back to happy and productive lives. The counts will be combined and submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which disburses Federal funding for homeless programs. To ensure that we have a full and accurate count, WE NEED A LARGE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS! Bring a friend or two to help with the count! All we ask is a few hours of your time. You and two partners will be provided a map of a specific area of town, and you will either walk (if it’s a downtown location) or drive through that area of town, count the homeless persons and survey those who are willing to take the survey, and then return your information to the PIT headquarters location . The Point-In-Time count is organized and coordinated by the South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH). Dress: Wear something comfortable and casual. Bright colors are recommended since it will be dark outside. Helpful items to bring: Flashlight, cellphone, San Antonio map (if you have one). If you are interested, please email us at [email protected] and provide us with your name, phone number, and how many people are in your group. havenforhope.org Haven for Hope is a place of Hope and New Beginnings for people experiencing homelessness in Bexar County.
