Voted in Missouri today and reading the ballot initiatives reminded me of something I just dont understand. Why do people dislike teachers? When I think of what teachers do every damned day for relatively small salary and much headache, I wonder why they arent seen as heroes instead of villains. Of course, I have the exact same question about why people have turned on journalists. Our family is composed almost entirely of people who work in education, and, as you know, my background is also in journalism. When I was a student I thought of my future profession as a place where wrongs would be righted and I would be respected by everyone for doing a job few were qualified to do and fewer still wanted to do. Im sure many student teachers felt the same. What, may I ask, have we done wrong?
