Vrksasana This pose is another of my favorites. I have rather low arches in my feet, & this pose in particular, helps to lift & strengthen them. It also strengthens my legs, & stabilizes my core. I start in Tadasana, & settle into my foundation. I find a gazing point (or drishti) to assist with focus & concentration. I like to bring my hands to my hips & touch base with my pelvis. Then I shift my weight into my left foot, & soften my standing leg to steady & stabilize. My foot position of choice is at my inner shin. I take my time getting there. Steadiness is key. I lift my right foot up, gently open up out to the side, then set my foot at my inner ankle. Here I check in again & stabilize. When Im ready I lift my foot a little higher up my leg to my inner shin. (Never the knee). Again, I check in & stabilize. When Im ready I slowly bring my hands to my heart center. I press my foot into my leg & my leg into my foot. Drawing in towards my midline to grow upwards. My legs have become my roots (strong, connected, grounded). I feel my standing foot & calf working. My torso is my trunk (stable, steady, firm), and when Im ready, on an inhalation I lift my arms, sprouting my branches (light, spacious, flexible). My breathing isnt as deep, but its steady, comfortable & even. I may sway as my standing foot calibrates. Its ok. I have become a tree, & trees sway in the wind. To exit the pose, I slowly lower my arms & leg with the full length of my exhalation. I return to Tadasana to check in & stabilize. When Im ready I repeat the process on the other side.
