Vybz Kartel sues Owen Ellington and TVJ Posted: July 8, 2014 Imprisoned dancehall entertainer, Vybz Kartel has filed a defamation suit against retired Police Commissioner Owen Ellington and Television Jamaica. According to the court document, Kartel whose real name is Adija Palmer, is suing Ellington and television Jamaica for statements made on April 10, which he is claiming caused him to experience contempt and ridicule. Ellington made the statement, following Kartel’s conviction for murder, on the discussion programme All-Angles and there was no statement from Television Jamaica to distance itself from same. The court document states that there has been no attempt by Ellington to retract the statement and the statement has damaged Kartel’s reputation and caused him distress and embarrassment. Defense attorney, Tom Tavares Finson who represented Kartel in the murder trial says he is not representing Kartel in this legal matter and explains the nature of the case.
