#WA #Corp Category: Fire Alert Summary: ALERT LEVEL: Bushfire ADVICE remains in place for the Great Northern Highway, between Bidyadanga Turn-off and Thangoo Station Turn-off, including Port Smith Road,150 kilometres south of Broome, in the Shire of Broome. Content: ALERT LEVEL: Bushfire ADVICE remains in place for the Great Northern Highway, between Bidyadanga Turn-off and Thangoo Station Turn-off, including Port Smith Road,150 kilometres south of Broome, in the Shire of Broome. The fire is burning on the western side of the Great Northern Highway. There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. WHAT TO DO: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: No roads are closed. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The bushfire is moving slowly in a northern direction towards the coast. It is out of control and unpredictable. The bushfire has burnt through approximately 26,500 hectares WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: DFES staff will continue to monitor the fire. CAUSE: The cause of the fire is unknown.
