WAG THE DOG - THE ART OF POLITICAL MANIPULATION Any day now, as the polls begin to look gloomy and the news turns bad, the Corporate Media - and we all know who were talking about - will look around for the human angle to make us want to love and forgive those stinkingly putridly vile evil-dirt bags that weve just realised are leading us (my therapist told me to say that..so much easier than smashing the television). Usually, its a makeover in the Womens Weekly - remember Julia and the sick-making kangaroo she knitted for the Royal Baby? - a confession, a redemption or a just-like-us moment that will make us think that the bastards are not so bad after all. We are mostly a forgiving and decent bunch, arent we? We dont want to believe the worst of someone, dont want to believe they are as bad as somebody says they are until we get our noses rubbed in it like a six week old puppy that cannot stop peeing on the carpet. Sadly, we have news for you. This time, thanks to the kindness of the Corporate Media, who have quietly bought up their shareholdings in energy stocks while they held out Mommys skirt so we couldnt see what the mongrels were really up to, we have really no idea how bad this mob are. What they have done to Queensland and its people is beyond belief: they have raped it, pillaged it, pulverised it - and most of the morons out there who are still staring at the pretty blue and yellow ads that say strong strong strong strong probably still reckon they seem alright, the best of a bad lot and thats how, one day soon, when we have had our country taken from us and our water taken form us and our rights taken from us and some foreign company is suing us because we didnt want them to take us over, we will look back through the haze and wonder how it all came to this... So heres a clip from Wag the Dog, one of the great political satires of all time and a masterpiece on how easy it is to manipulate the poor unsuspecting public. Its set in the run-up to an American election when the President is exposed as having an affair (sounds familiar?) and his team decide to resort to some diversionary tactics to get the voting public to think about something else. and so they invent a war, and a classic, all American hero with the nickname of Old Shoe, and they convince the nation to really care about this guy. They film the war in a Hollywood Studio and they beam it out live through the television studios every night (Hello, Commercial News Networks!) and pretty soon, all anyone is thinking about is Old Shoe.. If you havent seen it, download it, hire it, buy it. and then play it every night so you really understand what is happening out there, and how badly you are being manipulated. And when you finally begin to wonder who is really telling you the truth, ask yourself: which one is being paid the most money? And then there are the rest of us, big hearted fools that do it for nothing, do it because we love this damned country and this beloved state too much to let them get away with what will one day be regarded as a war crime against our own people... more on that later. watch the movie for now.
