(WALKING WITH GOD ISNT FOR WIMPS) Recently, I was in my bedroom doing some cleaning. I happened to be close to the air vent when I could hear Matthew talking and singing. This wouldnt be unusual but He was in his bedroom not mine. I could hear him perfectly well. The sound coming from the vent was crystal clear. I got down on my knees and spoke into the vent. Hey Matthew, I said. Hey Dad, he said. I told him that I didnt know he could be heard so clearly. He said, Yes, I hear you and mom all the time. Now, I dont have to tell you that I was a little disturbed as I wondered just exactly what he had heard. Many of us would like to be able to hear God audibly like that. In fact, we sometimes think that if we could do so then we would have great faith. However, there were men around Jesus when he walked this earth. They saw Him and heard him. They witnessed countless miracles yet Jesus had to often rebuke them for their lack of faith. Faith isnt about hearing God audibly or having all the details worked out in advance. For faith to be real it has to operate in the area of the unseen. We have a tendency to want to know everything in advance. How much will it cost? Where is it all coming from? What will the bottom line be? These questions and more are things we want to know. It drives us crazy when we dont know the answers to all of our questions. However, God says no to this ideology. Faith operates in the unseen and unknown areas of life. If we are going follow Christ then we have to walk by faith. God isnt going to answer every question. He isnt going to give you the bottom line or even provide everything in advance. You have to trust Him. You have to keep on walking with Him even though you cant see how everything is going to work out. Even though it might not appear so, He is in control. He is sovereign over your life. He is working.
