WARNING INCOMING RANT.... if you are afraid of the truth and offended easily please do not read!!! So on my way home from an inspiring weightlifting competition in Dublin on Saturday, I was delighted to see an increase in the amount of women that where competing in comparison to the last competition I was at. It was also soo good to see soo many women not fearing the bar but also mightily excited about being able to lift heavier weights. What drives me insane is people looking results but arent willing to do anything different, arent willing to push themselves to a challenging limit, dont want to progress from week to week. Why wouldnt you want to be leaner, stronger, have higher metabolism, burn more calories when sleeping?? The satisfaction of being stronger and better than yesterday, than last week is amazing. Not only is it incredibly satisfying but it also allows you to watch your physical transformation before your eyes, your waist size drops, you bingo wings dissappear, your self-esteem goes through the roof and your determination to get stronger follows suit. Too many people have negative perceptions of weights, aww its for boys, its too dangerous, Id rather run the roads for 40minutes. Whoever said weights was for boys, some of the leanest, strongest, fittest girls where in a room in dublin on Saturday, all have the same thing in common, they lift weights and love it. There is also nothing dangerous about lifting weights, resistance exercise stimulates sooo many muscles all at once that your body gets stronger and stronger every time you are under the weight. Dont get me wrong, weights are to be challeneging but this will differ from individual to individual so it doesnt mean that everyone who enters the gym will lift the same weight, everything is scaled to your own ability, and thats where progress is. Theres something amazingly satisfactory about doing something you thought you once couldnt. Give it a go, ditch all your negate vie associations with it, break the stereotype and be the strongest women you have ever been. Be the strong woman who doesnt have to ask for help when moving a heavy object, who is a strong independent woman who can look after herself. A strong body will work wonders for a strong mind and mental attitude. Honestly give it a go, watch your progress before your eyes, physical and mental transformation. Stand up for strong women and break the stereotype.
