WARNING: SOME PHOTOS ARE GRAPHIC. Hi, my name is Max and I was surrendered at the May 23-25, 2014 Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force clinic at Alexis First Nations. When I was discovered in distress by event volunteers, the community quickly agreed to add me to the list of pets that would be surrendered for veterinary care and rehoming. SCARS representatives volunteered at the event and by the end of the weekend, had accepted 20 dogs into their care, including me. Some pets were very young, some had illnesses and some, like me, had injuries. This community invited the task force to help them with their pet overpopulation problem. The goal was to make their community healthier and safer for pets and residents. Their mission was accomplished. I’m a medium sized Border Collie cross who is about a year old, but it hasn’t been an easy year. Someone decided to put a collar on me at some point when I was just a puppy. I kept growing, but unfortunately the collar didn’t and had to be surgically removed. Two of my photos are quite graphic. I hope I don’t scare anyone. I promise that my neck is healing, but it isn’t too pretty yet. In addition I had recently had run in with a very unfriendly skunk. But life is looking up for me now that the collar is off and I’m on the mend. Us dogs are resilient, all we need is caring people like you to help us along the journey. SCARS has recently accepted many sick and injured animals into care. We will post more stories soon. You can help by donating to SCARS and by supporting our Tails on the Trails event on June 7.
