WARNING: This is just another one of my tattoo rants. So if you dont want to read it, scroll down. So, to the assholes out there who say that I charge too much, just because your cousin does it for cheap, does not mean a tattoo shop will have the same prices. But you should have already known that, so why would you even bother to bring it up? I mean, isnt there a reason why you walked into a shop in the first place? Because what youre looking for is a GOOD ARTIST who does GOOD TATTOOS. (Note: there are very few amazing artists who work in a private self-made studio, however, there are also many horrible artists in tattoo shops. Do your part by researching so you end up in a good shop, not a scratcher shop!!!) I have worked and studied hard to be able to come up with good designs and good tattoos even if its done in a small amount of time. I only charge the hourly rate when I do long sessions for sleeves, backs, legs, etc. I actually think I am very reasonable with my prices. Youre paying for something permanent, not a new pair of shoes that will only last you a few months, and most of the time, my company and co-artists are awesome to hang out with! Very few of you think I charge too much, while the majority of my clientele who have been coming back to me tell me that I do not charge enough, so they end up leaving big tips instead. So, obviously I would rather keep them as clientele than gain you as a new customer, since I know youre going to be cheap anyways! Thats the way business is baby. I always give the best to my clients, even more than what they ask for sometimes. As long as they can leave happy. Also, just because we charge you a couple hundred for a tattoo, does not mean we are rolling in money. We do have bills, we do have things we need to buy and pay for, and sometimes work is so slow that your tattoo will be the only one that we will get the whole week. Not only that, but most shops charge their artists a certain percentage of the profit, so we obviously do not come home with all the bills in our pocket. You think tattooing is easy because all we have to do is trace and tattoo the design that you found online, but the real artists will take their time to come up with a custom design from scratch that they believe their clients will be happy with. When you do that and juggle with so many different people and styles, it takes a toll on us mentally and physically. Life of an artist was not meant to be an easy one. Ive lost a chunk of my social life to my tattoo lifestyle, and honestly, I prefer it that way because I do have respect for my industry and what I do for people. The least you can do is understand where we come from and have some respect as well. Thank you.
