WARRIORS ALWAYS BELIEVE IN TRADITIONS, GENEROSITY OF SPIRIT AND PURENESS OF HEART!! It was such a great comfort to read your love and support over the Thanksgiving weekend! Thank you for taking the time to SPEAK TO US WARRIORS!! The Girls and I were spoiled by our beloved Auntie and Uncle and although the day was bitter-sweet we saw it through. Now it is on to our birthdays and Christmas. As a December baby myself I swore I would never have a baby in this month. The classic line about wanting to make God laugh, tell him your plans rings true... I did not have one Christmas baby I had two!! In 2000 Indy was born 21 minutes before my 30th birthday. Two years later we welcomed Mattie. Now December is filled with birthday cakes and balloons as well as twinkling lights, carols, and Holiday Cheer. The Warrior family has always been big on traditions. We would kick off the season with a too tall tree Warrior would wrestle into the living room. I loved soaking that tree in a million colorful lights, spooling garland, and lovingly unwrapping treasured ornaments for the girls to hang...and me to move ;) Warrior would always lift one of the girls on alternate years to top the tree with our beautiful angel named Gabriella. Just as with Thanksgiving we will do something new this year but the girls surprised me with a twist on a tradition we have had since they were small. I assumed we would not do advent calendar this year. Every year past I would place little surprises and treats in their advent elf house each morning. A pack of lifesavers or gum, a candy cane, jingle bell, or a few Hershey kisses were enough to make the girls giddy each morning. This year I figured nobody would be much in the mood so when December 1st arrived I was shocked to find the girls had given me an advent gift! The prettiest tube of red lipstick and a note about how hard moms work to make the holidays magical. I was overwhelmed! They had taken time shopping with my Auntie Deb and their own money to make for me what had always been special to them. It both warmed and broke my heart. Luckily we were introduced to the greatest card game in California phase ten so getting them a set of those cards served as advent day one, itll be easy once I land back home today to stock up on peppermint sticks and lifesaver packages until I get my creativity back into ultimate gear. Still what my girls taught me is that no matter how hard it is to carry our traditions forward we must...not because it is easy but because that was what made our lives so rich and our memories so full of life and color. Our birthdays and Christmas will come and we must celebrate and be glad for our family, friends, all you warriors, and the spirit of the entire season because Warrior would want us to. Besides, the holidays are wondrous and beautiful if that is how you hold them in your heart. This holiday season whatever you celebrate do so with the purest of hearts. Do something for somebody else who may be in a tougher place than you. Sit down with your family and friends and play a board game, dust off uno or better yet grab Phase Ten at Walgreens! I wish we could have shared the night of trash talk and laughs with all of you just sitting around the table with a deck of cards. The holidays were more magical in a bygone era when everyone slowed down a bit and remembered the meaning of what they were celebrating. Not one store bought gift the girls and I ever received could rival the celebrations we had with their dad and the traditions we established while we had him. I believe in hot cocoa with marshmallows AND whipped cream. I still believe in Santa Claus and Christmas cookies and being on the nice list. I believe our children can teach us important lesson if we will receive them... I believe in the lighting of candles and the lighting of trees... I will Believe...because that is the greatest tradition...Always. xo Dana
