Free Art Lecture on July 13 at Gallery Zeke! Come join the fun with Gary Sanders, local artist and STARCO Board memberr. Read on for more information: STEELVILLE ARTS COUNCIL NEWS “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like” will be the title of an Artist Talk by Gary Ferd Sanders at Gallery Zeke on Saturday, July 13th at 1PM. Gary is the Secretary of the Steelville Arts Council. He is also a painter. His studio/gallery is on the Huzzah Creek 19 miles out from Steelville which has been his home most of his life. Although he has occasionally traveled to complete commissions, most of his work is created at Sanders End in Huzzah, the 170 year old estate of seven generations of Sanders. Gary received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southwest Missouri State College in 1968 and went on to further his art studies at Northern Arizona University, University of Maryland Far Eastern Division and the Chicago Art Institute. He has traveled throughout Central and North America, Asia and Europe studying painting techniques in some of the world’s finest museums. Much of his painting philosophy is derived from his study of Zen Buddhism and the influences of Japanese culture on the West. His paintings are in collections throughout the U.S. as well as Canada, Europe and Africa. The current exhibition at Gallery Zeke is a commemoration of the Civil War 150 Anniversary through contemporary art. The Mission of Gallery Zeke is to Introduce Contemporary Art Exhibits which Stimulate Awareness of Visual & Performing Art Disciplines within our Community.
