WCHE NEWS - State House 158th District Republican candidate, Cuyler Walker has withdrawn from the race. In a statement released yesterday, Walker said: It is with deep regret that I am announcing my withdrawal as a candidate for State Representative. Certain personal issues have arisen, and I believe that I can no longer effectively campaign for this position.” Chester County Republican Committee chairman Val DiGiorgio asserts he will convene a committee meeting to select a new candidate, saying “the Chester County GOP is committed to ensuring the 158th State House District is represented by a Republican.” According to Chester County Commissioners spokesperson Rebecca Brain the Republican Party will need to Petition PA Commonwealth Court to remove Walker’s name and add a substitute candidate on the November 4th General Election Ballot. According to Brain, some Absentee Ballots have already been mailed out in the 158th District. She said it would be up to the court to determine how to handle that issue. Chester County Democratic Chairman Brian McGinnis said in a statement, “The legal deadline to withdraw as a candidate was August 11th. Allowing the candidate to withdraw, taxpayers would be burdened with the cost of reprinting the ballots and reprogramming the voting machines”. The Democratic candidate in the 158th District is Susan Rzucidlo. Follow @FrankWCHE for all the latest news and information.
