WE ARE CELEBRATING SOME GOOD NEWS WHICH WE ARE GLAD TO SHARE: A teenager, placed into the care of the State after her arrival in Ireland a decade ago, is looking forward to life as an Irish Citizen after her application was successful. We represented her as an Independent Law Centre and worked to overcome legal obstacles which can prevent applications for children in care. Children in care are often prevented from applying for citizenship while they are under 18 because social workers are not allowed sign the necessary forms on their behalf, and there is no procedure specific to their situation. Our solicitor argued that citizenship should be granted as the teen has lived in Ireland for more than half of her life and has family connections to the country. Our client is looking forward to celebrating her first Christmas as a young Irish Citizen and to pursuing studies in College – we wish her every success!
