WE ARE CLIMBING JACOBS LADDER The Christian life is one of constant growth and maturing in our faith. If one looks at it from the scriptural perspective, first we believe in the Lord Jesus as our Savior, then we receive the Holy Spirit as our Guide, Comforter and Teacher. As we learn more, we are sanctified through the Word, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17 KJV) and finally, when we stand before the Judgment Seat of the Most High, we are justified through the blood of Christ. We are found just as if Id never sinned because He covers us with His robe of righteousness! And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. (Galatians 3:8 KJV). In the Old Testament, Jacob had a dream that some still have trouble explaining. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. (Genesis 28:12 KJV). He saw the connection God desires to have between heaven and His special created beings on earth. Only through the process mentioned above can we be reconnected with the Heavenly Father! Once Adam and Eve broke that bridge by sinning, it took a blood sacrifice to cover their nakedness with animal skin, just as it takes faith in the blood sacrifice of Jesus to cover our sin! But faith alone is not enough...And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-8 KJV). Notice how the progression moves from faith, which is a heart felt conviction, to a change in values (virtue), and then to educating our minds with more knowledge about Him. From the mind, the growth moves on to external changes, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity. These are the outgrowth of faith. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (James 2:26 KJV). None of this is possible without the Lord! Being a good person might make you appear to others as a Christian, but it is first and foremost the inward working of the Holy Spirit that reconnects us to the Father! The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. (Psalm 27:33 KJV). My Jeanne
