WE ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE POST-MORTEM REPORT AND ACTIVITIES OF DELHI POLICE: FAMILY June 6 2013:The mortal remains of the 21 year old girl Reingamphi Awungshi from Ukhrul, who was found dead in her rented accommodation in Chirag Dilli on May 29 in a suspicious manner, was brought back to her native state in an Indian Airlines flight by members of Tangkhul Students Union Delhi on Thursday. The members of the deceased family, relatives, locals, members of Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) and Imphal Tangkhul Shenao Long (ITSL) waited at the Tulihal Airport to receive the dead body. Father of the deceased, Chihanban expressing dissatisfaction with the post-mortem report and activities of the Delhi Police, accused it of “trying to conceal facts about the murderers instead of making all out effort to nab the real culprit”. His daughter was supporting the family by working at a beauty parlor in Gurgaon and has been staying at Delhi for around six years. Expressing his strong desire to see the culprits punished, Chihanban said he suspected the involvement of the land-lord and his brother-in-law. A Condolence meeting will be held at Tangkhul Baptist Church and the last rites will be performed at her village. Relative of the deceased, Mohomi Mashangva stated that the refusal by the police to lodge an FIR saying that they need to know the cause of death which will be available only after the postmortem created a feeling of discrimination of the people of North East states. In the meantime, friends of the deceased and the Northeast people were threatened by the locals of Chirag Dilli on June 3 when they were protesting against the mysterious dead. “They were warned that if the police pick-up anyone from the locality for questioning, the northeast people will face the consequences. Such words make us feel ashamed to consider ourselves as a citizen of India. The case is a good example of conspiracy, discrimination and suppression against North East people by the mainland Indians”, said Mohomi Mashangva. He appealed to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Delhi to consider the matter seriously and take up necessary actions as soon as possible. He informed that the first postmortem carried out in AIIMS, failed to give the actual cause of death. And the report of the second postmortem came out on June 4, which also didn’t mention the cause of death but said ‘inconclusive’. The second postmortem report showed the cause of her death but the police said that they are waiting for the report of viscera which has been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory, Ahmedabad for conclusive report. President of TKLI, Pamreiso Raiping stated that the student union strongly condemned the passive response of the Delhi Police. She was found dead with injuries on her eyes, face and toes which is a clear indication it was a sort of murder. However, the Police Department earlier told that she might have been bitten by rats. It was only when the NE students strongly protested at Malviya Nagar police station, the FIR was lodged as ‘murder’ which was earlier registered as ‘abatement to murder’. Cases of molestation, rape and discrimination which have been happening frequently with students of North East, should be considered in a serious light by the Indian Government, he added. In reacting against the ‘inconclusive’ report of the second post-mortem and negligence shown by Delhi Police and concern authority as well as the threats meted out by the local residents of Chirag Dilli, the Northeast students and civil society bodies also staged a protest this evening at Jantar Mantar.
