WE NEED YOU! Please consider donating to our fundraiser to help us save lives! It is below zero out at Pine Ridge and puppies, dogs, and even cats desperately need us. Please visit our website at tracyareaanimalrescue/donate-now.html The following post is from KC at Lightshine Canine: A Rez Dog Rescue...her words are haunting and show what we are up against..but also empowering because this is something that we can CHANGE! Never underestimate the power of $5...together we can save these animals in need. We thought today would be a slow Rescue day…..terribly cold…all the dogs would be hunkered down from the cold…is what we thought. Not so much. It has been one of our busiest rescue days in weeks. Thanks to this page and our relationships over the years with many wonderful Lakota friends….calling in about this puppy….and that dog…and this new mama (who is so happy her babies are safe)…and yes…..the kitty at the store….and the skinny, stray dog laying on a front step who it appeared had given up….and more….we have been busy. I am still in Colorado….but I am playing dispatch….putting together the minute-by-minute puzzle that is coordinating Rescue from afar….over a ginormous Reservation. Still not done….we have folks out there right now…still bringing them in from the cold. A dear friend of mine took in two 25 lb. pups today and is keeping them in her itsy-bitsy house that doesnt have running water….but does have a good wood burner. I got wood, she said. And I got two pups to keep me warm til you get here. And she laughed, the thick gravel-coated voice a smoker…And I will keep them warm too, I suppose. Thank you everyone who helped today. From the Boots on the Ground to those of you who donated so we can keep going….from the friend who drove a load of dogs needing medical attention to Omaha at the break of dawn today….to the Rescues all over the area who are packing their vans with crates, as we speak….from the Teachers on break who have been out rescuing…to the ranchers wife who picked up a mama and pups to foster because we are out of room…to the store owner in a remote community who took in the dog on the step and kept him safe in her back room. We all need each other. And we will be back at it tomorrow….because, although many will not survive the cold of this night...many will…and they will be out in the sun looking for warmth…and we will be looking for them….so we can get Paws off the Ground and continue to do what defines who we are. We are Rescue.
