WE NEED YOUR HELP ASAP!! WEVE NOW MOVED 317 TIERS, THERE ARE STILL ABOUT 300 MORE TO MOVE!!! WE ARE STILL HERE WORKING, LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN STOP BY, VOLUNTEER AND ILL GIVE YOU THE DIRECTIONS. WE WILL BE HERE UNTIL SUNSET. PLEASE RE-POST!!! I really need your support. Im recruiting volunteers for epic mission, organizing a team to help me in the removal of hundreds of illegally dumped tires that are slowly deteriorating/eroding and polluting the San Lorenzo River. Theyre located within the rain water runoff (watershed zone) of the river, off Highway 9 between Santa Cruz and Felton. They are only a few miles upstream from where the Santa Cruz Water Treatment Plant collects a portion of the public drinking water for Santa Cruz residents. These tires seem as if they have been there for several years. We need to address this issue, we can work together to help restore this section of our environment and make a difference in our community. The tires are relatively easy to access and will not be a problem to remove them from their current location. Santa Cruz Public Works will be dropping off a large dumpster so they can later be picked up once the project is complete and recycled correctly. Our project mission is on Saturday, July the 26th at 10:00am. If you would like to be a volunteer please contact me to receive your confirmation and more details regarding the logistics of this operation; parking, tire location map, directions etc. As of now I have almost all of the volunteers needed. Volunteer release forms will be available at the site. This is a list of some items we will encourage the volunteers to bring if possible.... leather gloves, shovels, ropes, music, ice chest/ice, water, coffee and energy drinks. Please pack your own lunch/snacks for the day, bring extras to share if you would like. Note. You dont have to work for the entire day, volunteering even a few hours will make a difference. If you would like to help and cant remove tires, there is other volunteer opportunities and tasks as part of this operation that you can work on that contributes to the overall project. Ive been talking with the supervisor at Caltrans and will be reviewing alternative options regarding the installation of a barricade or fence that would prevent the illegal dumping trash in this specific location in the future. We may all stop at the Garden of Eden after working if we finish early. This event is sponsored by Woodstock Pizza. The volunteers are all meeting up at Woodstock (outdoor seating reservations) after the event for a complementary pizza dinner!! If you own a business thats services may apply to this event and would like to be an additional sponsor please contact me for more information. Thanks again for your attention to this issue and all the repost that helped me get the word out. This post thats continually getting reposted sets a worldwide social networking example from an environmental level, a view of our community with a pollution problem, and working together to come up with a solution. Sincerely Alekz Londos To get set up as volunteer you can message me on Facebook or you can e-mail me at AlekzLondos@gmail advanceddisasterrelief/ Facebook/sustainable.santacruz Advanced Disaster Relief PO Box 7227 Santa Cruz, CA 95051 If you have any additional questions about the event you can call me at 1-775-997-4401 If you have any information regarding the illegal dumping of these tires please contact the Santa Cruz Police department.
