WE SHALL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR COOPERATION WITH ZIMBABWE - KHAMA Speaking on the outcomes of this past weekend’s Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, H.E. the President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama confirmed that Botswana will continue to work cooperatively with the government and people of Zimbabwe, observing: “Zimbabwe is our neighbour, they have a government which is in place for the next five years and we have to continue to improve our cooperation between us and them and we shall be doing so.” President Khama further confirmed that Botswana has taken a stand and made recommendations on the need for an audit of the Zimbabwe election at the SADC Summit, further noting that Botswana submitted a dossier and recommendations, which formed part of the report on Zimbabwe elections that was presented by the chairperson of the political organ of SADC, Tanzanian president, Mr Jakaya Kikwete. “We have done all we needed to do, we issued our statement and it is now in the organ’s hands,” he said. President Khama further hailed the just ended summit saying the discussions on political situation in the region were a success. The President noted that the Summit also receive reports on SADC regional economic integration, gender developments, HIV/AIDS, the SADC tribunal as well as food security made part on the summit programme, adding that there was progress on these topical issues. He also welcomed the election of Dr. Stergomena Tax from Tanzania as the SADC executive secretary saying it reflected progress in the representation of women in leadership positions in the region.
