WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA The forecasts through the holiday weekend are right on track. There is a new feature for today however. It looks as if we will see a chance for showers and thunderstorms develop over the higher terrain in both Southern Oregon and Northern California. Look for clouds to appear over the mountains first, giving us a chance of showers and storms later. That will also be repeated again tomorrow. Highs today will be the hottest they will be for at least the next week with upper 80s to near 90 for the valleys of Southwestern Oregon. After today we are looking at lower to mid 80s through Sunday, and then upper 70s for Memorial Day. You will be hearing and seeing a lot of talk about showers and clouds in the forecast for Oregon in the national media, and even by some local TV forecasters for the holiday weekend, but that activity is going to stay well to the north. It does not even look like Roseburg will see that now. But if your plans take you to Portland or Washington state for the holiday weekend, expect to see clouds and showers. Looking ahead to next week it does not look too bad right now. It will be pretty seasonal for highs, but we will be seeing sunshine to wrap up May. A trough is going to stay locked in place just to our north. This will keep us from heating up for now. But once that trough departs, the heat will come back in and it looks like we may see our first run up to the upper 90s of the year when it does. That could arrive at the end of next week, or it may delay until the first week of June. But that will happen so be ready for it when it does.
