WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA We - TopicsExpress

WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA We have changes this morning in the data for the short term....and it is not good news at all for fire fighters, and anybody ready for the cooler weather of fall. BUT!! Relief is also in sight for the weekend. Lets start with the heat. The data this morning really kicked the heat up for the week. The ridge we expected is arriving sooner, and it will be even stronger. This means the heat setting in earlier and being even hotter than we expected. We will be hot through the work week now. The hottest day will depend on where you live. For most of us that hottest day will be Wednesday with a projected high of 103 in Medford, which would not be a record by the way. For those in Lake and Modoc Counties, Thursday will likely be your hottest day. The hot weather is going to greatly increase fire activity on all established fires, and of course help fuel active behavior in new starts. That is the bad news. The good news is that come the weekend there will be a change. The data is still not sure about the thunderstorm threat you are hearing about from other sources. Still way too many IF scenarios for my liking here. A slight chance generally across so much of the area...but it is a very slight chance. The slightest it can be and still be worth mentioning. At this time the area that looks to have the higher slight chance will be east of the Cascades in Oregon and down in Northern California. West of the Cascades in Oregon has the lowest of all chances. Honestly, so low I am a bit surprised that some are even forecasting them. But, to each their own. One thing that is very sure for he weekend is a big cool down. We will drop to slightly below normal temperatures for the holiday weekend as it looks right now. Normal for Medford at this time of the year will be around 90 at the start of this week, and upper 80s by the weekend. We will be down in the mid 80s. This is going to make for very pleasant temperatures for the holiday weekend. If the showers and storms do not materialize, then it will be a perfect long holiday weekend from a weather standpoint.
