WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 - 2 Samuel 14:25-16:23 biblegateway/passage/?search=2Sm+14:25-16:23&version=ESV 2 Samuel 15 In the previous chapter there appeared to be a reconciliation between father and son. Yet, while David kissed Absalom, there was no record of Absalom reciprocating. In this chapter Absalom’s hard heart became evident as he constructed a coup against his father. David gave up the city without a fight. Either he feared Absalom or as appeared to be the case previously, he avoided lifting a hand against his children. It’s interesting that it was David’s son Solomon who wrote, “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him” Proverbs 13:24. I wonder if it were through these personal family experiences within the household of David that Solomon gained the wisdom of the rod.
