WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2013 Jb 38:1-41:34 biblegateway/passage/?search=Jb+38:1-41:34&version=ESV – Job 38 v.3 Such pride we take in being real men. When God addresses Job He commands himself to dress for action like a man. In a sense, He is saying being a real man is nothing in comparison to being God. In another way, He is telling Job to take the answer God is about to give Him and dont whine about it. Either way, God reveals that His knowledge is so far superior to mans that it is incomprehensible to him. We cant even begin to get the big picture. Yet, God does not keep us from being part of the picture. In His discourse with Job, God helps us to see beyond the veil of our meager existence. There is more going on than we know, yet God took time to visit Job, and in this way, visit us. Job 40 v.15 the creature here described as behemoth has been compared with an ox, hippopotamus, or elephant. None of these seem to adequately fit the description. v.17 says that his tail is like a cedar. None of those previously listed animals have such a tail. A dinosaur like the brontosaurus would be a more likely candidate. Paleontologists have described this creature as a sort of gentle giant. The description of this animal as the first of the works of God does not necessarily mean chronologically but in size and stature. The reference to such a beast indicates a coexistence of dinosaurs and humans contrary to the opinions of many evolutionists. Job 41 v.1 Once again we are presented with a creature that does not match the description of any of our currently living species. This beast has sharp teeth and scales. According to vv. 19-20 he breathes out fire and smoke. In fact, the description seems to most closely resemble a dragon. I might be inclined to dismiss such a notion as mythical. However, the dragon and dinosaur bear a close resemblance in their descriptions. As far as the fire-breathing description, it seems impossible from what we know. Thats the kicker. We seem to measure things only by what we know. Thats exactly what Job was being chastised for. I would never have believed light could be produced from a living organism if I had not seen for myself a firefly. I have never seen a living breathing dragon, dinosaur, or leviathan yet I believe they existed in accordance with the word of God.
