WEDNESDAYS FORECAST UPDATE FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: WEDNESDAY: We are waking up to a fairly brisk east-northeasterly breeze. Although the dawn temperature is about 15°C, it does feel a bit cooler out there. Especially because the high humidity has caused some very low cloud to form. This has caused the airport to briefly turn very misty, but I dont expect that situation to worsen. Rather, the sun will gradually lift temperatures to between 19 and 20°C, causing this cloud to lift and dissipate. To avoid that force 4-5 wind, head to inland walled or wooded areas. If you are heading to the coast, then the best shelter will be along some stretches of the south coast cliff paths. To find shelter on the west coast beaches, you will have to tuck yourselves into the northern corners. High tide is 8.3m at 6:17pm. Sunset watchers will probably see the arrival of the cloud that will be the main feature of tomorrow. THURSDAY: This is the first day in a long time that we actually expect to see some rain. The timing is a bit uncertain but this is my latest expectation: Between about 2 and 4pm, there is a fairly slim risk of one or two light showers; then, from 4 until 6 or 7pm, a spell of slightly heavier rain is looking more likely. The day will probably be cloudy enough for the UV index to take a dive to about 4 or 5, and I only expect a moderate or low pollen count too. The breeze should just be a moderate east-southeasterly, veering to a gentle west-southwesterly as when the rain moves through. The max temperature should be about 18°C. FRIDAY: Thursdays cloud should hang around until the late afternoon, along with a risk of a one or two light showers. By the time that most of us are finishing work though, blue sky and sunshine should prevail. The wind is due to be a moderate force 4 southwesterly, which will probably make St Peter Port the warmest spot on the island (about 18°C) whilst LAncresse is the sunniest. The tides will be low at 1:46pm and then 8.8m high at 7:40pm. SATURDAY: The wind should continue form a southwesterly direction, bringing a fairly even mix of sunny and cloudy spells. It will be a fresh force 5 for much of the time, so that will feel a bit cool in exposed areas. The LAncresse area will probably receive the most sunshine, but St Peter Port should clock the highest temperature of about 19°C. There is a definite risk of a few passing showers, but they will be a bit hit and miss. I shall try to be more definite about it nearer the time. Dont forget that there should be some small but ridable waves at Vazon, along with free equipment hire from Guernsey Surf School. The best waves should be found during the fist half of the morning and then the second half of the afternoon. SUNDAY: The shower risk will probably continue into the morning but I think that we can be fairly confident of a dry and sunny afternoon. The wind should be a moderate west-northwesterly, perhaps falling light and variable during the afternoon. The max temps should be around 19 or 20°C.
