WEEK AHEAD - WEEKEND (mini heatwave) Sunny Boy says this is a re-post from yesterday, and will be my LAST on the current mini heatwave / Jet Stream. Because if you havent got it by now you never will ha ha ha. Sunny Boy says so lets take a look at the week ahead / weekend before the telly weather peeps then . . . . . . and well see whats what. Its not great news, but its not all bad news either ha ha ha It wont be cold . . . . . more muggy, clammy kinda, but theyll be some heavy showers, as well as some warmth, and possible thunderstorms as well . . . . . and dont confuse WARMTH with sunshine ok, although there will be some bright spells in amongst it all as well. The main problem is the JET STREAM eh . . . . . its only went and plunged further SOUTH allowing all these low pressure weather systems to start rolling in off the Atlantic again. At this time of the year, the JET STREAM usually begins to head further NORTH, which means all the lows getting pushed up in the Arctic, and we get all the nice warm air up from the mid latitudes. Not so this week Im afraid. And if we look at the graphics Ive tried to simplify it best I can . . . . . . . . . The solid black line is the JET STREAM. The RED circles are low pressure, the GREEN circles are high pressure, and the dashed black area under the JET STREAM is known as a JET STREAK = STRONG WINDS !!! So as we can see, the JET STREAM is away down south, pushing all the high pressure (good weather back) and allowing all the lows (shitty weather) to roll in off the Atlantic . . . . . Now the position of the Jet Stream depends on the cold air mass to the north, and the warm air mass to the south, and its where these 2 masses meet, that determine the position of the Jet Stream. The position of the Jet Stream is also influenced by other factors such as things like El Nino and the North Atlantic Oscillation as well . . . . . And if you want to start talking about the North Atlantic Oscillation, then wed need to talk about the Icelandic Low, and the Azores High as well ha ha ha ha. But Ive got a funny feeling I may have lost you already eh ha ha ha ha Anyway, the Jet Stream is where it is, but it shouldnt be. And thats whats responsible for the shitty / unsettled weather towards the end of the week / weekend. That is all.
