WEEKDAY GOSPEL AND REFLECTION December 22, 2014 Luke 1:46-56 And Marysaid, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” And Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. Marys Magnificat has long been loved by peoples of every nation and generation. What makes it so special is not only because it portrays Marys special devotion to God, but it also shows how Mary would like to see the redemption of Israel. Her image of God is a God who helps the poor, who lifts up those who are troubled and who remembers the promise of redemption to all. Sometimes I think, Jesus probably gained a lot of good traits from Mary for from the very start, Mary already exemplifies what it means to be an apostle of God. May Marys song of praise become our example in life as we let our heart and spirit rejoice in the God who is to come and live it to the fullest. Song composed by Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ and arranged and sung by the Hangad music ministry. https://youtube/watch?v=J9_A3SJQKuk
