WEIRD AL TOP 20 COUNTDOWN #20: Dare To Be Stupid - This is one of Weird Als style parodies, meaning its not based on any one Devo song, but all of them. What is fitting about this is that Dare To Be Stupid could practically be a Devo song. Devo is known for creating biting social satire with black humor, and Al even mimics their comedy style of robotic-chant singing. Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh admitted it was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard and said, I hate him for it, basically. What I like most about the song is the way Al creates a perfect send-up of the stupid things people are prone to do. Its a FAIL compilation from 1985 in song form. But then he puts the perfect ironic twist on it all by peer-pressuring the world to do something even stupider.
