WEM Thursday Devotion Purpose in Time I Samuel 3:1 NKJV Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. I want you to consider this for a moment tonight and go back to God and simply ask the question I will put at the end. A day came in the history of the nation of Israel that it was rare to hear anyone saying something and attributing to God as the source. And God breaks the routine of the time by speaking to the most unlikely source. A young boy who needs three bites at the cherry to get it right that it was God speaking. This was not the first nor the last time such a thing has happened. Where there is a condition that prevails and becomes normal until God suddenly does something that grabs the attention of the masses. When he spoke in Joel 2 from 28, and the time it has began to be fulfilled, you will note that God would move at the time when there was a certain prevailing condition or state of life. When the disciples began their ministry they were reaching out to a people who were so rooted in the law of Moses, it took a work of wonder by the Holy Spirit to get men saved through conviction. When Paul goes to minster in Athens in Acts 17, he finds that these people were searching for God but didnt know how to get a hold of Him. And at that time Paul was sent of God to make clear what was in their hearts. It is an inevitable thing in God that your purpose is closely related with the time you are living in and the place of your dwelling. What do you count as the challenges of our time? The profane culture? Idolatry? Racism? Social segregation? Theft? Corruption of morals? False prophets? All these things manifest today in a greater degree than ever not because God went blind and allowed it but has given you and I structures like the walls of Jericho to overcome and show forth the power of God. If doctors 20 years ago saw only 4 cancer patients a month and today they see those in 4 hours, what do you think you have to do about it? If you been given the power to pray and all of your community is falling apart, guess what your assignment is? Your purpose is closely linked to what is the present prevailing situation, the future has its own troubles but where you are today ask God what do you want me to do? Because there is a lost and broken world out there that can use you spending just an hour on your knees. God bless.
