WEST Coast’s search for midfield speed has gone global, luring a WA and Australian baseballer out of a lucrative US career. Corey Adamson, 22, has lodged formal applications to be registered as an international athlete or he can be listed by West Coast for next season after being out of the AFL for more than three years. Adamson is described as a “lightning fast” midfielder and played in Western Australian youth AFL teams with emerging Eagles power forward Jack Darling and brilliant Gold Coast Suns on-ballers David Swallow and Harley Bennell. Adamson is originally a product of the East Perth junior development pathway when he played state under-16s. He appeals to West Coast plans to inject pace and swift ball movement next season with capability to also run and break lines from half-back or as an aggressive ball-winner inside heavy congestion. Documents for Adamson to join West Coast are understood to already be with the AFL. He could even commence training before the end of this season if he wins league approval and permission. Eagles coach Adam Simpson has remained adamant he wants an influx of quick and skilful midfielders in a bid to get back into regular finals from next season and build toward premiership calculations through the rest of this decade. Adamson fits the prototype midfielder at 188cm and a powerful 93kg. But it is believed West Coast has secretly conducted critical skills, fitness and health testing on the classy multi-talented athlete ahead of initiating steps to entice Adamson to return home and rekindle his AFL hopes. Adamson can be added to the Eagles list in October during the annual trading period and because he fits the unique category of international recruit or not having played Aussie Rules in any official competition for three years or more, he will not cost West Coast any swap or draft pick. Thoughts?
