WHAT CAN I SAY....I LOVE MY HOMETOWN.... ON A PEARSONAL LEVEL IVE MET THIS MAN AT A GAS STATION ON THE CORNER OF LA PALMA AND STATE COLLEGE BLVD. HE ACTUALLY GAVE ME DIRECTIONS TO VENICE BEACH . I MUST ADMIT I DIDNT RECOCNIZE HIM UNTILL HE GAVE ME A RELIGIOUS PAMPHLET AND INSIDE WAS MEMBERSHIP CARD THAT ENTITLED ME FOR A BURGER COMBO ALL YEAR, NEVER USED IT HAD HIS SIGNATURE ON IT.HE HAD A HOME IN ANAHEIM NEAR PRARSON PARK. AND FOR HALLOWEEN HE WOULD GIVE OUT FREE BURGER COUPONS.I WAS SUPRISED TO HEAR OF HIS DEATH IN 2008 HE WAS 90 YEASRS OLD,A NICE HUMBLE MAN, IS HOW HE SEEMED TO ME. I GIVE HIM EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS FOR THE DOUBLE WESTERN BACON CHEESE BURGER FAVORITE OF MY BURGERS. Carl Karcher, a child of the depression from Upper Sandusky, Ohio, had the prescience and the luck to buy a single hot dog stand in Anaheim, California and turn it into a chain of restaurants with over 1000 franchises. In 1937, Karchers uncle Ben offered him a job at his feed store in Anaheim for a then-enviable wage of $18/ week. With bright dreams and an affable, hard-working personality he toiled for a couple of years at the store, grinding seed and selling feed seventy-five hours a week. After marrying the daughter of a prominent orange farmer, Karcher took a job delivering for a bakery. There, he earned $24/ week. While making his delivery rounds, Karcher noticed how many buns he was delivering to the rash of hot dog stands that had opened across downtown Anaheim. So when he heard that a stand was for sale, he jumped at the opportunity. He borrowed $311 against his car and bought the stand in 1941. These restaurants had a fast-food model of service that appealed to the post-war boom car-crazed families of Southern California. He called these branches Carls Jr. because they were smaller than his flagship full-service restaurant. The fast food model soon took hold, buoyed by the friendly star that became the companys logo and Karchers garrulous presence as a TV spokesman for his restaurants. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE BURGER FROM CARLS JR.?
