WHAT I LEARNED IN CHURCH TODAY: August 31, 2014 From Africa To Bethlehem Hosea 11:1 A Fox commentator recently said that Jesus and Santa Claus were white men. She was wrong on both accounts. The popular imagery of Jesus suggests that he was white. However, throughout the world the true images of Jesus are on display and they suggests that He was of African descent. And even though it has now been scientifically proven that He could not have been white, when we close our eyes we still see images of a fair skinned Jesus with long blond hair. Rev. Billy Graham said as far back as 1973 that Jesus was not white, but many still hold to the premise that He was. The first recorded images of Jesus shows that He was short, with dark skin, short curly hair, thick eyebrows and a slight hunch-back. Michelangelo was commissioned to paint a portrait of Jesus and when the first portrait was rejected, he used his own cousin to sit for the second portrait, and thus the image of Jesus as a white man came to fruition. God said I will call my son out of Egypt. Egypt is in Africa. Egyptians are Africans. The truth must be told according to the word of God. The first country mentioned in the Bible is Ethiopia, an African nation. Genesis 2 gives us the geographical location of the Garden of Eden, showing that it is surrounded by four rivers, The Pishon, The Gihon, The Hiddekel and The Euphrates, making it a broad area that stretches over 3000 miles. Microchondrial DNA has proven beyond a doubt that Eve, the first woman, had to have been black. Only people with melanin can produce people of color. All genetic roots trace back to African. Gods word further tells us that the three sons of Noah, Ham, Shem and Japheth were the origin of the table of nations after God dispersed them and their followers throughout the world. White folks became white because of physiological adaptation to climates. Many generations of living in colder climates brought about the straightening of hair, and the lessening of the spread of the nostrils, etc. Of the 42 generations of Jesus, 29 were Hamitic, 13 were Shemitic and none were Japhetic. Tamar, Ruth, Bethesda and other strong black women of the Bible are the vessels through which the African diaspora was evidenced. You ask why is this important. It is important because when we study black history we are told that we are descendants of slaves. We were never told that we are so much more than that. We are also descendants of the first man on earth. With so many of our youth growing up with no self esteem and who appear hopeless, this knowledge is invaluable. Our racist society has always held that if you have just one drop of black blood you are black regardless of your genetic makeup. Thats why having a white parent and a black parent designate you as black rather than white regardless of your physical appearance. Those of us who grew up in the Jim Crow south know the importance of having something of pride to latch onto. With this knowledge we can raise our children with a confidence that they are are somebody special. We can raise our children with the knowledge that they are more than just descendants of slaves. They are also descendants of the first man and that theres a strong probability that Jesus was a black man like themselves. Itll gives them a sense of purpose and let them know their true worth. And that has to have a positive affect on their self esteem. Truth crushed to earth will rise again. Jesus was not white! (And neither was Santa Claus, he originated in Turkey, making him Turkish.) This and other sermons can be obtained through the church bookstore.
