WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE SAVED? GRACE TITUS 2:11 For the grace - TopicsExpress

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE SAVED? GRACE TITUS 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. [We are not saved through Gods grace alone since it appeared to all men. We also need to choose to love God and Jesus.] EPHESIANS 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. [We cant get to Heaven by doing enough good works or doing works good enough - which would be earning eternal life, nor can we buy our way with money. It is a gift from God - free, and unearned. We also need faith, without which all the other steps would not be enough.] FAITH 1 PETER 1:9 As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls. ROMANS 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. GALATIANS 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love. [We are not saved by faith alone, and faith is more than just believing. Even the devil believes Jesus Christ is the Son of God.] REPENTANCE ACTS 17:30-31 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. [We need to stop our bad ways and start following Gods ways.] LUKE 13:1-5 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. JAMES 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. [We all need to repent because we all sin, and one who commits even the smallest sin is as guilty as one who commits the biggest - and one who commits one sin is as guilty as one who commits them all.] CONFESSION ROMANS 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. [We also need to confess that Jesus is Lord.] 1 JOHN 1:5-9 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [Jesus cleanses us from past sins and forgives all sins we confess.] MATTHEW 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. ACTS 8:36-38 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized? Then Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. BAPTISM JOHN 1:12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God… [Receiving and believing are only first steps that give us the power to become children of God. Receiving and believing alone do not make us children of God. We must also be baptized.] ACTS 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [We must also be baptized.] 1 PETER 3:18-21 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. [Baptism is required to be saved.] TITUS 3:5 ....he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit.... [We are not saved through our righteous deeds alone, we must also be baptized.] GALATIANS 3:23-29 Now before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed. So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian; for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christs, then you are Abrahams offspring, heirs according to promise. [Only those who were baptized into Christ put on Christ.] MARK 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. [Some say that this means that he who does not believe will be condemned since the sentence does not include is not baptized - implying that baptism is not required. Silly, if you dont believe, you arent going to get baptized. We cant play around with Gods words in the second part, simply believe the first part - He who believes and is baptized will be saved. If baptism were not required, this would never have been said.] ACTS 22:6-17 As I made my journey and drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone about me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? And I answered, Who are you, Lord? And he said to me, I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you are persecuting. Now those who were with me saw the light but did not hear the voice of the one who was speaking to me. And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do. And when I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me, and came into Damascus. And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, came to me, and standing by me said to me, Brother Saul, receive your sight. And in that very hour I received my sight and saw him. And he said, The God of our fathers appointed you to know his will, to see the Just One and to hear a voice from his mouth; for you will be a witness for him to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name. [Saul believed, but this was not enough since he was also told to be baptized.] ACTS 8:35-39 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. [The eunuch heard the Gospel, he believed the Gospel, he must have repented or he would not have wanted to be saved, he confessed his faith in Christ, he was baptized in water, then he rejoiced because he had then been saved - and all of this was possible because of Gods grace.] AND AFTER YOU ARE SAVED GOOD WORKS JAMES 2:14-26 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. MATTHEW 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. [We need to obey Gods Word with a pure heart and the right attitude - instead of just going through the motions or doing things just to look good to others.] WHAT DOES BAPTISM ENTAIL? WATER 1 PETER 3:18-22 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. [Noah and his family were saved through the water of the flood, as we are now saved through the water of baptism. Noah and his family were saved through water as a shadow of things to come when we are saved through the water of baptism.] JOHN 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mothers womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. [We die and are buried in water baptism, and born again of water and spirit when we rise out of the water.] ROMANS 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection. [We are buried by baptism by being immersed in water, as in a coffin or in a hole in the ground. We are not buried with him by being sprinkled with water. We are raised from the dead with Jesus by arising from the water.] COLOSSIANS 2:6-14 As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so live in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fulness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fulness of life in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ; and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross. [After being buried with Jesus by being immersed in water during baptism, we are raised from the dead with Jesus by arising from the water.] ACTS 10:43-48 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. [The apostles knew that water baptism was necessary.] TITUS 3:3-8 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. [Even though we are saved by the washing of regeneration - baptism - we should still try to always do good.] JOHN 3:23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. [John needed much water because baptism meant immersion not sprinkling.] MATTHEW 3:13-17 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me? But Jesus answered him, Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. [Jesus was baptized with water to complete what God requires and to show us what we need to do. Jesus also went up from the water, meaning that he had been immersed in the water and not sprinkled with it.] BLOOD REVELATION 1:5-6 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. EPHESIANS 1:3-10 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us. For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fulness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. ACTS 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [We are baptized for the remission of sins.] HEBREWS 9:22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. [Shedding of blood is for the remission of sins, and being baptized is for the remission of sins, so being baptized with water is how we are washed with the blood of Jesus.] ACTS 22:16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name. [Our sins are washed away by the blood of Jesus, in water by baptism.] 1 PETER 1:18-19 You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. MATTHEW 26:27-28 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. [Jesus had not shed his blood (by dying a violent death) at this point in time, so he gave the apostles his blood symbolically through the cup of wine. This is a symbolism we relive every week through communion as a remembrance of Jesus shedding his blood (and our receiving it through baptism). Some say we are saved when we receive Christs blood through communion instead of baptism. But, if that were true, we would only we need to take communion once, just as Jesus only had to die for us once. So, why do these same people take communion over and over?] WHO DOES NOT NEED TO BE BAPTIZED? DEUTERONOMY 1:39 And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from bad -- they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it. [Babies and little children dont need to be baptized because they cant sin since they dont fully know good from bad. They are still innocent, and baptism is to save sinners. Those of us who are able to recognize sin must be baptized through immersion in water - even if we were sprinkled as babies, baptized in some other way, or went through some sort of confirmation ceremony. Water baptism is part of our new covenant with God. And, since we enter into a covenant with God, we have to be mentally able to know what we are doing and saying and why.]
