WHAT IS THERE TO CELEBRATE? By Edwin Sakala It is true that Zambia is turning 50 on 24th October but for ZDDM it will be a day to dress in Black as a sign of mourning for our failure to remain independent. In a very rich country blessed with abundant natural wealth the Zambian is today more divided and with no common vision. While the Zambians are preoccupied with fighting and pulling each other down foreigners are busy taking their land with impunity .The Chinese , Fellow Africans from Islamic countries and white settlers from Zimbabwe are sharing Zambian land and freely milking Zambian wealth . Worse still the national cake is being enjoyed by those in power while the majority population is dehumanized, suffering and dying in numbers higher than that of countries at war and even those experiencing the Ebola outbreak. Only those gifted with the ostrich amazing nature of burying their heads in sand can really engage in celebrating in the midst of a situation created by extremely selfish and heartless Zambians. For any Zambian who really cares for the people of Zambia and our land which is being stolen from us it is a day proving Ian Douglas Smith of Zimbabwe right that it will take Africans more than a thousand years to govern themselves in a civilized manner . Ian Smith seems to have had Zambia in mind because it is one country in the world proving that Smith had a valid point. Zambians stands out in the whole world as an example of a failed nation whose people generally think with their mouth and stomach. Zambia is a very rich country with enough wealth to insure a comfortable life for every citizen but sadly enough only a handful of its leaders lives a humane life while the majority population wallow in the chains of abject poverty all because of the God for all and each one for themselves culture which the country has been caught up in . The country is a present day example of the Biblical Tower of Babylon and Sodom and Gomorra as citizens are purposefully shepherded into being preoccupied with each one seeking self gratification, At independence in 1964 Zambians celebrated the coming in of self rule that removed the Whiteman who they accused of being an oppressor. The people celebrated that they were independent to govern ourselves in a civilized manner. For the elderly Zambians who experienced colonial rule 24th October is indeed a significant day because they fully understand and share our stand that there is nothing worth celebrating. In 50 years we have grinded progressively from being a decent and civilized society into being a primitive and an animal like society of unbridled greed and self centered people. Zambians who understand how other nations conduct their affairs in a civilized manner on this day have every reason to on Black as a day to mourn for themselves because even neighboring countries which we assisted to get independence are enjoying a better quality of life while Zambia has revolved into being like Sodom and Gomorra and politically a Tower of Babylon. We invite all those with eyes to see that Zambia is lost and heading towards self destruction to join fellow Zambians in collectively communicate our heart felt disappointment that fellow Zambians are ‘Eating Masuku on our head”(oppressing us) by treating us like a horse while they are acting the rider. Make this statement by putting on black on this day. Edwin Sakala ZDDM President
