WHAT IT ALL MEANS Since, WWII, the opposition party (i.e., NOT the party of the sitting President at the time of the election) has gained, during the mid-term elections, on average, 6 seats in the Senate. So, to put that in perspective, the Republicans tonight, did slightly better than the average. Obamas 43% approval rating is the exact same approval rating Reagan had at this point in his Presidency. The Republican-controlled House could vote to impeach President Obama. They only need a simple majority to do so. However, there are three points here: 1) theyve had the majority all along and havent done it, 2) if they did, it would look like a replay of the bullshit Clinton impeachment (proving that Rs refuse to accept a D President in general, and Clintons impeachment backfired on them), and 3) they need 66 votes in the Senate to remove Obama from office (which they dont have and wont get). It saddens me to even have to discuss this. Rs have been calling for Obamas impeachment from the beginning ... even though they dont have a reason why. They WILL have control over Senate committees now, with subpoena power, so you can be sure the next two years will be nothing but more political grandstanding by folks like Ted Cruz and Darryl Issa ... at the taxpayers expense. John McCain will now be head of the Senate Armed Services Committee and frothing at the mouth for war. As he himself sang once as a (not funny) joke: Bomb, bomb, bomb. Bomb, bomb, Iran. We can expect more tax cuts for the wealthy, attempts to take healthcare away from people, no immigration reform, no higher minimum wage, no jobs program, less environmental regulations, less investment in renewable energy, no acknowledgement of climate change, no relief for burdensome student loans, no equal pay for women, more attacks on Roe v Wade, more bigotry disguised as religious freedom, more battles over marriage equality, more cuts to unemployment benefits, an attempt to privatize social security, etc. The problem with Democracy is that YOU GET THE LEADERS YOU DESERVE! (Thomas Jefferson) Well done, America. Youve voted against your self interest once again. The countdown to Hillary begins now ...
