WHAT: Press Conference to announce developments on the MA TRUST ACT WHEN: Monday, March 24th Boston, MA- After more than a year of advocacy and awareness-raising, the Massachusetts Trust Act has been reported favorably out of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. The bill seeks to counter the damaging effects of Secure Communities on the immigrant community and their relationship with local law enforcement. The authors of the bill, Senator Jamie Eldridge and Representative Carl Sciortino, Centro Presente and the members of the MA Trust Act Coalition, a diverse group of immigrant organizations, faith and legal community activists, are convening a press conference to celebrate this milestone and to announce next steps in their campaign to pass the Massachusetts Trust Act. Im extremely pleased that the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security has favorably reported out the Trust Act, said Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton). Im deeply grateful for the support of a bill that will limit local law enforcements submission to unjust, unnecessary, and unsafe federal deportation programs by local law enforcement and restore the trust between immigrant communities and the police, increasing public safety for all residents in Massachusetts.
