WHEN ANALOGUE WAS ANALOGUE....... It runs vividly down my spine when I reflect on those days. When we were called Lputon, Lkarsa or just merely Layok! Never mind I am now a fully fledged Lmurani or otherwise a Lkishamiy. Those days when the Lmooli reigned over us in terror with their full fists. Apparently, I have come to realize that this lmuran turned Lpayeni were not a joke in their heydays. Analogue was what defined most of their lifestyle. As a cheeky and a curious boy of his time, I always watched their weird moves being executed behind the curtains! Those days the likes of Peter Lempei John Lenkulate and the rest of the thousands of Lmooli spread across the Lpurkeli and Ldonyo would put on pipe jeans or whatever kind of suruale that hang just above the ankles or otherwise popularly known as dont touch my shoes!! Their women counterparts would put on some funny looking skirts (note that they didnt call them skirts but Marinda was the most favorite word! Lol!) When word goes around the neighborhood that there will be a bash, It will take one a full month to prepare for it si kama hizi enzi zetu siku hizi ambapo bash inapangwa kwa madakika! The lmooli used to call them DISCO. The fellow lmooli from far flung villages will sacrifice all their time and energy to attend the disco in the neighboring village. On the day of going to the Disco, the guy will eat a special meal to further gloss the special day! In most cases, the meal will consist of Njipitai (a mixture of meat cooked with maize flour) and several cups of sour milk! Afterwards, the lmooliy applies himself with some strange smelling perfume known as YU or Yolanda as they preferred to call. With his NORTH STAR boots and the dont touch my shoes trouser the lmooliy finally hits the road crossing rivers, climbing several loipangin and passing by lkirne le ndonyo risking his life with herds of buffalo and elephants grazing in the night. and now that he is all alone walking in the wild he release tones of nchikati enough to kill twenty house flies. Never mind that this nchikati was inherited from the heavy njipitai meal!! On arrival at the villlage club that is normally built of mud walls and roofed with nkujit or rather grass the lmooliy finds the DISCO gone full swing with the famous south african rhythm music playing and people gone haywire! The DJ is seated at an old table with an old NATIONAL STAR radio with a cassette playing from the tape part of the system! There was nothing like big speakers in the club only music from the cassette player or rather what Lmooli used to call COMPAC was available! Having lived in extremely secretive societies, You will rarely see a Lmooliy with his girlfriend in the DISCO! In fact mentioning the word girlfriend was in itself a taboo! hahaha! TUSKER was the only available beer brand and only the rich and the mighty would afford the then highly priced drink. For you to be put in this category of the rich and mighty, Your father had to be a location or a sub location chief, a primary school teacher, a policeman ama kama mko na duka hata kama ni canteen! (bora iwe ni duka!) The dancing styles in the DISCO had no much difference with the kanisa syle of dance (moving from right to left) and making sure that you dont get too close to the lady (your dancing partner). The following morning, the talk about last nights DISCO will rule the village news and extending throughout the week! The Lmooli ladies in their times had no idea of what a biker was all about rather, the now rapidly phased out hot pants were the order of the day. In their times this stuff was simply called paant and the bras called sindilia!! And even as the world celebrates the INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY, The lmooli should simply take a bold and a brave step move to wish their women such a happy day. Acheni mambo ya kuogopa mabibi and avoiding to mention words such as honey, sweety, baibe na hii mambo ingine yote ya digital. Watu wametoka mbali! #KuchokozaLmooli!!
