WHERE IS ACCEPTING THE LORD IN THE BIBLE? Imagine the reaction that a man would get, if on bended knee, his proposal would be, I accept you as my personal wife. He would need to be saved! I am not trying to be offensive or insulting here. I am only trying to making a point. Where did telling people to say to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, I ACCEPT you as my personal savior come from? It is NOWHERE in the Bible! Only 3 times in the KJV is the word accept used in reference to salvation. NOT once is it used about us accepting God; only Him accepting us! The following are the ONLY VERSES in the King James New Testament that use the word accept in a salvation context: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. (Acts 10:35 KJV) Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:9-10 KJV) Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. (Ephesians 1:5-6 KJV) Again, please note that not even one verse speaks of us accepting God. EVERYONE of them speaks of God accepting us! This has been my point all along. Saying the words I accept The Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior is not in the Bible and is not supported by any Scripture. Furthermore, there is no Biblical evidence that saying these words produces or results in acceptance by The Lord. NONE! Who started this? Its only been in my lifetime. There is no record that I can find of any churches using this specific salvation confession before the 1950s. Many attribute this salvation method to Evangelist Billy Graham. It is like A. W. Tozer once said of accepting Jesus, it requires that Jesus would “stand hat-in-hand awaiting our verdict on Him, instead of kneeling with troubled hearts awaiting his verdict on us.” The picture here depicts Jesus standing before you, the judge, having looked at all the evidence, and waiting (and hoping) that you will give the verdict, “I believe. I accept.” Man is like that; he always wants to be in control. Yes, we have been given the freedom to make our own decisions, but it is God who is in control. Jesus said, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you...” (John 15:16) He later said, “...but I have chosen you out of the world...” (John 15:19) It is God who will judge us. Paul said that the Lord is the “Righteous Judge.” (2 Timothy 4:8) “...The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:30-31) (This paragraph by James G. Poitras) Finally, in EVERY instance in the Book of Acts (the recorded history of the early Church), there is NO instance of any individual being saved by faith alone. In EVERY single reference to someone believing on The Lord, they were also baptized! Every single one of them! No exceptions! Again, my Friend, I ask you, where is the Biblical/Scriptural support for anyone every being saved in the Bible by saying, I accept The Lord as my personal savior? Are you honestly willing to gamble your eternity on something nobody in the Bible did? Please, please, please. I am not trying to be unkind or offensive. In fact, I would be a denying the love of God to NOT call men to make their calling and election sure! Please prayerfully and carefully search the Scriptures, in them only is eternal life.
