WHERE IS THE BIG PICTURE? First off, lets be clear - There should be a strong and credible Opposition in Malaysia. The Opposition serves as a mechanism of check and balance as well offering the country a viable alternative to the governing party. In other democracies, the different political parties present different economic and political philosophy, e.g. the UK Tories (classical economics, right of centre policies) and Labour (Keynesian economics and left of centre policies). The Republican and Democrat parties in the United States also have opposing political and economic philosophies. Not so in our political system. The BN Government does not subscribed to any particular economic school of thought except that it adopts market enterprise capitalism for the countrys economy. We pick and choose policies that can come form different economic philosophies. So... When the Opposition wants to oppose, on what political and economic philosophy do they base their opposition on? None. They have not articulated on how, in the big picture, they will run this country. In the absence of an academically-sound political and economic philosophy, they had to resort to negativity. Every single opposing point that they propose is based on negativity. They should present a strong and positive proposal that stands on its own right instead of just criticising everything. They dumb-down the level of politicking in this country.
