WHERE SHOULD ONE PLACE HIS HANDS WHILE OFFERING SALAH? There are 3 Hadith in Sunan Abu Dawud about plcaing the hands in Salah- The first one talks about placing under the navel, which is Daeef (Weak); The second one talks about placing above the navel, which is Hasan (Good); The third one talks about placing on the chest, which is the Sahih (Authentic) one. Lets see the following Ahadith- It was reported from Abi Juhaifah that Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Sunnah is to place the palm over the palm in the prayer, under the navel. (Daif) [Sunan Abu Dawud: Vol.1,Book-2 (The Book Of Salat),chapter-117-118 ;Hadith no.-756 (DARUSSALAM)] Jarir Ad-Dabbi narrated: I saw Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, praying while grasping his left hand with his right hand, over the wrist-joint, above the navel. (Hasan) [Sunan Abu Dawud: Vol.1,Book-2 (The Book Of Salat),chapter-117-118 ;Hadith no.-757 (DARUSSALAM)] It was reported from Sulaiman bin MUsã, from TãwUs who said: The Messenger of Allah SAW used to place his right hand on his left hand, then grasp both of them on his chest while he was praying. (SAhih) [Sunan Abu Dawud: Vol.1,Book-2 (The Book Of Salat),chapter-117-118 ;Hadith no.-759 (DARUSSALAM)] So, we should always follow Quran and Sahih hadith. And Sahih Hadith says that The Prophet SAW placed his hands on his chest while praying. There is another Sahih hadith of Sahih Ibn Khuzaima- Wail bin Hujr (RA) says, ‘I prayed with the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and he placed his right hand over his left on his chest. [Sahih Ibn Khuzaimah,Hadith no.-479]
