WHICH DAY SHOULD WE KEEP AS SABBATH? ★To explain this, I have to repeat something. I have to explain to you the differences between the new and the old covenant. You have to understand that we are now living in the new covenant. Hebrews 8:13: When god speaks of a ‘New Covenant’, it means He has made the old covenant useless. It’s now out of date and will soon disappear. Hebrews 12:24: You have come to Jesus, the one who meditates the New Covenant between God and People, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of Forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel. ★After learning that we are now living in the new covenant, and that the old covenant is useless, an important question arises. What are these new and old covenants? OLD COVENANT: ★It’s the Covenant that God made with Moses. In this Covenant; the Laws were written on Solid stone, Scrolls and Tablets and the punishments were physical. It’s more practical than rational. It involves doing what you’ve been urged to do without questioning or reasoning over. The old covenant was sealed by the sprinkling of animal’s blood on the heads of the Israelites; (Exodus 24:1-8). Every covenant must be sealed by shedding of blood. Exodus 34:27: And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel. And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. NEW COVENANT: ★It’s a covenant that was made by God with us through Christ. In this covenant, the laws are written in our Hearts and minds. The commandments do not have to be 12 because people have invented new ways of sinning. It’s more rational than practical. It mostly involves doing what you know is right, not what you feel is right, through using your power of reasoning over good and evil. The new covenant was sealed by the shedding of the blood of Jesus on the cross. In the New Covenant, we’ve been released from the Law. Hebrews 10:16: This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Hebrews 8:10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: Jeremiah 31:33: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, says the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. ★After understanding this, another important question arises. What does understanding the New and the Old covenant has to do with the Sabbath? ★God created man on the Sixth day, rested on the Seventh, blessed it and made it holy. According to the old covenant, we must keep this day we’ve been urged to and not any other day. ★In the New covenant, God does not care about the calendar. He just cares that out of the seven days there is in a week, we should choose a day to refrain from our duties, rest, and praise Him. ★Any Day you choose to be your Sabbath can be your Sabbath. Provided you observe this day for the rest of your life. But then we are urged that we should not give up the habit of gathering together to worship Him. For where two or more people gather in His name, God is among them. ★What I am trying to say is any day generally accepted as Sabbath by more than 3 people can be your Sabbath. And this is why? 1. THE RISE OF THE GREGORIAN CALENDAR! ★There is a room in Vatican called the Tower of the Winds. It was built in 1580.Its a scientific room that was created to show that the old Julian calendar which was instituted in 45 BC by Julian Caesar was wrong. There is a small hole inside this Tower that projects a beam of light that was supposed to hit a symbol embedded on the floor at Midday. But as time passed, it went off target. This was because a solar year was shorter by about 11 minutes. Over time, those minutes became significant. ★So, Pope Gregory the 13th ordered that 10 days from October 1582 be completely erased from the calendar and the New year to begin on 1st Jan and Not in Late March as it Did Before. The Americans were slow to adapt to the Popes new system and used the old calendar for the Next 200 years celebrating the New Year at the End of March instead of Jan 1st.The Americans were considered fools. That’s how April 1st became known as Fools Day. And Hence the Gregorian calendar that we use today. 2. DO WE REALLY KEEP THE SABBATH? ★The same thing the Pharisees did to Jesus is a repetition of what most people are doing today. They blame you for not keeping the Sabbath. Well, here’s another big deal greater than keeping the Sabbath; if you do not keep the Sabbath as Sabbath, you are doing a greater sin than not keeping the Sabbath. Do you know why? Who said that attending a Sunday or Saturday service is keeping the Sabbath? ★How many times do you attend this thing you call a Sabbath service and get back to your work afterwards? Are you really keeping the Sabbath? The law of Sabbath is very clear; you are not to work on Sabbath. Even when your Ox falls inside a hole, you are to let it die if you’re so keen at keeping the Sabbath Law. Isn’t that what they said to Jesus when they condemn him for eating corn on Sabbath? Going to church on Sunday is not keeping the Sabbath. ★How many times do you think you’ve kept the Sabbath? THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN AND NOT FOR THE SABBATH: ★We dont keep the Sabbath because it is there; we keep the Sabbath because we are here. It was made for us and not for the Sabbath. Mark 2:27: Jesus said unto them, the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. ★On the other hand, you should not let anyone condemn you for not keeping the Sabbath or any other holy days. The new way of living in spirit releases us from the bondage of the Law. I might not keep the Sabbath for personal reasons. Does that give you permission to condemn me? I might not keep the Sabbath the day you suppose I should keep it. Does that make you greater than I am? Colossians 2:16: So dont let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or New moon Ceremonies or Sabbaths. LIVING IN THE SPIRIT: ★Why would you make yourselves subjects to the law? We have already been released from the law and we are no longer captive to its power. We are no longer slaves to the law. We now live in a new way of living in the spirit. Living in the spirit is doing what you feel is right as per the word of God teachings. Not what the Law has said. Romans 7:6-14: Now, we’ve been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now, we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the spirit. THE OLD LAW LED TO DEATH, THE NEW WAY GIVES LIFE IN SPIRIT: 2 Corinthians 3:6-11: Christ has enabled us to be ministers of the New Covenant. This is a covenant not of written Laws, but of the spirit. The old written covenant ends with death; but under the New Covenant, the spirit gives life.
