WHITE – BELLIED HERON : (Environment and Ecology) • Scientific Name : Ardea insignis • IUCN Category: Critically Endangered. • Only 250 birds present in the entire world. • Feeds on Fish in clear fast flowing water • Extremely Shy bird. (Just like a UPSC aspirant when asked, “what are you doing”.) WHY IN NEWS.? • Breeding place discovered in Namdapha Tiger Reserve , Arunachal Pradesh • Namdapha river is flowing there, and its nest was found 18 meter above the ground on an East Indian Almond (Terminalla Myriocarpa) • Found by : Mr. Maheswaran GOVT. REACTION • As usual first form a committee • The Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India has funded 3 year study on the species. (Interested can apply, but no selfies in the forest)
