WHOLISTIC DUDES | MENIERES DISEASE | OSTEOPOROSIS OF THE SKULL Dr. G talks to a radio listener (Dennis) from South Carolina about Meniere’s disease. Dennis has a friend who is suffering from it. His doctor sent him down to see a specialist at the University of Charleston. The doctor told his friend that he couldn’t have any salt, because the salt was causing him to lose his hearing. Dr. G says that the friend’s doctor is an idiot and should have his licensed revoked for making such a ridiculous statement. That’s just like telling someone that the reason he is losing his hearing is because he has an alien implant in his body or he is infected with an evil spirit, and we have to do an exorcism to cure him. Dr. G explains that Meniere’s disease is a disease of the inner ear. Let me break this down for you. You’ve got your ear canal and your eardrum. Behind the ear drum your have your middle ear canal, then behind that there’s another ear drum that goes into the inner ear. The inner ear is where the apparatus that helps the body maintain balance is located. The inner ear is where all the hearing also happens in the body. When the nerves coming off the brain, going to the inner chamber of the ear get messed up, you get Meniere’s disease. Well, what messes up those nerves? Is it a voodoo curse? No. Is it aging? No. Is it salt? No. Is it a bad gene? No. It’s a bad doctor who doesn’t know anything about pathophysiology or doesn’t care to know anything about pathophsyiology. Menieres Disease Is Caused By Osteoporosis Of The Skull In order for that little nerve that comes directly off your brain going into the inner chamber of the ear, it has to go through a tunnel in the skull. When your skull bone is nice and healthy, that tunnel is nice and strong. The walls of the tunnel are nice and strong, and all you have is a tunnel and the nerve going through it. It’s just like a wire through a tube. However, when the skull bone starts to lose its structural integrity, when the walls of that tunnel that the nerve goes through start to collapse, the body puts connective tissue in there to keep the tunnel wall from collapsing. Remember, the body is smart. The body know that if the tunnel collapses, you are going to go deaf, dumb or blind, or worse. So the body will do whatever it can to keep that from happening, so it puts connective tissue in there to shore up the walls ostensibly. When there’s connective tissue in there, it will rub up against the nerve. When it rubs up against this particular nerve, you get Meniere’s disease. It has NOTHING to do with salt, except perhaps a “lack of.” Because if you don’t have enough salt in your diet, your digestive acid is going to be weak. If your digestive acid is weak, your body is not going to be able to digest nutrients out of the food to keep the walls of that chamber nice and in tact, and the walls of that tunnel nice and strong. This is a nutrient deficiency disease due to a breakdown in the structural integrity of the skull. It’s osteoporosis of the skull, believe it or not. So, what do we do when faced with this?
