WHY ARE WE FREE INDEED? The email I received concluded with these words, “If you got this email and didnt pass it on - guess what - you need your butt kicked I sent this to you, because I didnt want MY butt kicked! Do the right thing! WE ONLY LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE! AND, BECAUSE OF OLD MEN LIKE VAN BARFOOT!” I have no problem honoring men like this. I am particularly attracted to courage and I do honor men like him, this Congressional Medal of Honor winner. But I DO have a growing problem with those who claim the name of Jesus and who spend their worship at the altar of neo-Christian American Patriotism and honor patriots and who rarely ever acknowledge the “the Author and Finisher Of Our Faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Rarely do I ever see much of anything really about Him, “… that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself.” But I DO see a lot of posts about neo-Christian American Patriotism and their patriot heroes. Men like the one mentioned above endured “contradiction” of people, a bunch of people “against himself” for a flag, because he had suffered and fought for it. Those people were determined to conquer the world and there’s more waiting in line to finish the job the Nazis and fascists and world imperialists failed to complete in WW2. But I’ve considered Jesus Who fought and died for me, being tortured, ridiculed, and then executed by sinners like me. Men like that other fellow are true American heroes. And I’ll acknowledge him and thank God for him. However I’ll do it only after I have exhausted myself honoring Jesus Who died to set me really free, FREE INDEED. There are thousands, maybe millions, maybe billions of evil spiritual beings and billions of humans, who live according to the world system they perpetuate, who are all intent on destroying The Faith of the Lord Jesus Christ and any who are foolish enough to live by it. American freedom is circling the drain right in front of us. The real freedom of grace, the freedom of the cross will last eternally, regardless of what the American government, or my neighbors, or Iran, or IS or communists, or whoever else you want to name does or says!!! When the American government finally gets around to officially opposing The Faith and when the atheists and the muslims and whoever else piles on to join the celebration of those who want to persecute The Faith (and they will), where will that gentleman be??? Where will the neo-Christian American Patriots be??? I know precisely, exactly where Jesus will be. And I’ll still be FREE INDEED even though the country I live in has denied me due process of law and the freedom to practice what I believe and tried to punish me for what I believe. BECAUSE HE LIVES, I CAN FACE TOMORROW WHATEVER IT BRINGS ME AND I CAN BELIEVE AND WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH. So, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord rather than the glories of some patriot. I mean no disrespect to him.
