WHY DE RAUFS SUPPORT AREGBESOLA? The emergence of De Raufs in Nigeria overcrowded political space is never by an accident; it is a process of serious cross-fertilisation of superior ideas that gave birth to a movement of socio-political volunteers, which was based on conviction of our assessment of sincerity and developmental leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola. De Raufs is therefore a volunteer group that stands for everything Ogbeni Rauf Argbesola stands for, Development, Sincerity, Justice and purposeful leadership etc. As a volunteer group, we are open to people from various walks of life; Artisan, farmers, students, civil and public servants, civil society groups, non-Governmental Organisations, professionals, politicians, business executives, market men and women among many others. We are united by one common goal: to canvass for the support of people for Aregbesola’s ideas, ideals, programmes and administration. But one may want to ask a question, why the entry of De Raufs into already swollen ranks of Aregbesola groups? The reason cannot be divorced from the reality despite the fact that in the history of State of Osun, no government has brought dividend of democracy and good governance to the door steps of the people than that of Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, yet some still misunderstand this altruistic effort. We are making our entry to address these challenges. Our strategy to achieve this noble vision of ours is not going to be limited to internet alone, in fact larger percentage of our effort has been invested in reaching out to our people door to door, workshop to workshop, farm to farm, motor park to motor park, street to street, market to market and town to town, community to community, armlet to armlet, college to college, shop to shop, village to village. And throughout our advocacy, Rauf’s ideas is our ideas, his mission is our mission, his vision is our vision, his joy is our joy, his tears is our tears, his concern is our concern, his voice is our voice, his battle is our battle. Our National Public Presentation of Wednesday 27th March, 2013, turned out to be a popularity test among the people, the venue of the event was beyond comprehension, as members from nooks and crannies of the thirty local government and area office and beyond trooped to the venue to be part of the new movement. The Leadership of De Raufs volunteer group assessed the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, based on it well documented and circulated campaign pact tagged “MY PACT WITH OSUN PEOPLE”; it was a document that signifies intent of purpose, it was an unusual pact from a government that turned out to be unusual! From the 20,000 Osun Youth Empowerment scheme (OYES) which is now been seen by the World Bank as a program that can frustrate and destroy unemployment. It was a programme started within the first hundred days in office of Ogbeni Aregbesola that signal the focus of the administration to empower youths in the state, to the massive road construction, health care facilities, investment on security agencies to address the new security challenges, government/community relationship, school uniforms, prompt payment of workers’ salaries and allowances, construction international Airport, the new opon-imo (Tablet of Knowledge), which has improved teaching and learning among the teacher and students in the state. It is even a pride to the state when international organisation like UNESCO appreciate the significance of Osun as the first state to have free digitalised learning tablets with fifty-seven textbooks and other materials. Indeed the Urban renewal project and environmental effort of Ogbeni is a pride to the people of the state, the era of flooding is a forgone issue as all the waterways in the state are dredged as at when due. Naturally, every right thinking human being will support good governance and development, but De Raufs view Aregbesola beyond ordinary, we are bound by an accord to work for more progress and prosperity, to spread the tentacle of people’s initiative beyond our immediate environment. The unprecedented rain of policies which watered the seed of development has germinated to enviable height of acceptance by the people; the reality has metamorphosed into what people are celebrating today. The unusual government has given credence to governance in an unusual way. As a volunteer, we are duty bound to support, encourage and even advice on policy to make Osun and Nigeria a better place to live, this is the time to support new initiatives for good governance, this is the time to support in building a new democratic order, our dream of a better state is materialising, we must never allow agents of backwardness to alter the on-going democratic progress, our dream must not die, we must sustain the peoples program of Ogbeni, History is always on the side of the righteous.
