WHY? Why? Have you ever wondered why kids always ask why? I was - TopicsExpress

WHY? Why? Have you ever wondered why kids always ask why? I was sitting in church the other day and I felt like God put this in my heart and I hope it ministers to you as well. God has commanded us to go into all the world and make disciples of all men (Matthew 28:19). All the characteristics and values of God do not just come by instinct. The only things that come by instinct are the desires and lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). The Bible says these lusts are contrary to God and always will be. All the values that we as Christian outdoorsmen and Americans hold to and believe are important, must be taught. Why do we stand and put our hand over our heart when the National Anthem is played. Why do we honor our flag? Why do we honor our veterans? Why do we honor our President? Why do we honor all of the public offices and officers? Why do we honor our teachers and church leaders? Why do we have to pull over during a funeral procession? Why do we put team first? Why can’t I do it the way I want to? Why can’t I shoot whatever I want? Why do I have to follow all these dumb game laws? I hope you see my point because the list goes on and on. I big answer to a lot of these questions is a proper understanding of honor. Honor is largely an unspoken word that is made up of ideals that are taught. I grew up playing baseball and was able to play for almost 20 years. Honor is sometimes compared to all the unwritten rules. These are the things that are hard to describe but they make the game. These rules are in every team sport. They are in the military and they are in the way we do everything. They are “The right way to do things.” One of the ways that honor can be described is to “make heavy.” When you make something heavy or deal with something that is heavy you have to respect it. There is a huge difference between bench pressing 100 lbs and benching 300 lbs. Most of us would not attempt to bench 300 pounds without at least one or two spotters, in other words we have to honor 300lbs. The event that really showed me a lot about honor was when my father was in his last days. We were in Wal-mart one day and my dad got him one of those scooters that go say 1 mph and seem to be in every body’s way. That’s the way I had always looked at them until then. As we were checking out I noticed two young boys about 17 or so that were kind of making light of my dad as he was checking out, not in front of him but behind his back. They had no idea that I was watching! I have learned since then that making light of something or someone is the same thing as not honoring. The problem was these boys had no idea who they were making fun of, he was my dad, he could have been your dad. He was a veteran, business owner, coach, husband, brother and my DAD! “He has earned the right to be in the way” I did not take the time to fill these young boys in on the truth that day even though at the time I would have loved too. I really feel like the Holy Spirit arrested me that day because I realized I had done the same thing on countless occasions. You see, until it affected me on a personal level, I had never really took the time to think about it. I decided that day that I would do my part to teach my kids and the kids I have influence with, how to honor the things of God and our Christian beliefs. The things and the truths of God must be taught and they must be taught by Godly people. Why not join me in teaching our younger generation and the generations to come. See you in the woods!
