India’s long awaited tie-up with Japan, its natural ally, became a strategic necessity in the wake of Soviet Union’s dis-integration. Both countries need mutual support to settle their territorial disputes with China and jointly act as bulwark against it. The UPA due to its usually laidback approach, missed the opportunity during its decade long mal-governance. This emboldened China.The US knows it cannot handle China single-handed and without supports from India and Japan. China would try to wean India away from the US and vice-versa.
